Laurent Zufferey appointed as Assistant Conductor of Basel Sinfonietta

LAURENT ZUFFEREY APPOINTED NEW ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR OF THE BASEL SINFONIETTA

The young Swiss conductor Laurent Zufferey will be the new Assistant Conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta. He will hold this position in the orchestra, which specialises in contemporary music, until the end of the 2022/23 season, working closely with Principal Conductor Baldur Brönnimann.

Laurent Zufferey, born in Sion (Switzerland) in 1993, has been chosen as the new Assistant Conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta. He was chosen by a search committee as assistant to Principal Conductor Baldur Brönnimann following a public call for applications.

"We are looking forward to working with Laurent Zufferey, who has convinced us with his competence, his personality as well as his enthusiasm for contemporary music," notes Daniela Martin, Managing Director of the Basel Sinfonietta. "As a representative of the youngest generation of conductors, Laurent Zufferey will have the opportunity to gain important professional experience working with a large orchestra.

Laurent Zufferey will support Principal Conductor Baldur Brönnimann in his rehearsals from next May, helping to shape concert projects of the Basel Sinfonietta with numerous world premieres and Swiss premieres.

The Assistant Conductor position is part of the Basel Sinfonietta Academy, in which the orchestra provides young female musicians, conductors and composers with practical experience in the context of contemporary orchestral music.
