Laurent Zufferey appointed as Assistant to the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège

LAURENT ZUFFEREY IS THE NEW ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR OF THE ORCHESTRE PHILHARMONIQUE ROYAL DE LIEGE.

Born in 1993, the young Swiss conductor distinguished himself at the audition organised in Liege on 19 April.

In line with the spirit of the British model of fellowship (patronage, granting of scholarships), which he likes for the richness of the exchange and the spirit of collegiality that result from it, Gergely Madaras was the initiator, in 2019, of a position of assistant conductor at the OPRL, appointed for one season and recruited through a competition. This initiative once again allows the OPRL to fully exercise its mission of supporting professional training within the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

As assistant conductor, he will support Gergely Madaras, both for his concert series and for his recordings of César Franck's Béatitudes (December 2022) and Ernő Dohnányi's Ruralia Hungarica (July 2023). In addition, he will have the opportunity to collaborate with several of the OPRL's guest conductors, such as Lionel Bringuier or Elena Schwarz. He will conduct the OPRL himself in several educational projects ("Et toi c'est quoi ton superpouvoir?" / "Atmosphère" / "1, 2, 3, nous irons au bois...") and in two concerts of the Music Factory series ("Welcome to the Machine", 26 October 2022 / "La dolce vita", 17 May 2023).

The OPRL wishes him a wonderful 2022-2023 season at his side!
